The world’s most successful musical returns — The Phantom of the Opera
extends in Vienna through June 2026.

Let’s get one thing straight: the original production of “The Phantom of the Opera” ranks, with more than 160 million visitors in productions in 58 countries, 205 cities and 21 languages, and as the winner of more than 70 of the most important theatre awards (including 4 Olivier Awards, 7 Tony Awards, 7 Drama Desk Awards and 5 Outer Critics Circle Awards), as one of the most successful musicals of all time. It tells the well-known, thrilling and mysterious story of the Phantom, who lives in the eerie catacombs of the Paris Opera, and his great love for the young singer Christine Daaé. The original Broadway production broke all box office records by the end of its 35-year run, the London production is now in its 39th year, and this success story is now continuing in Vienna.

A mega success also at Vienna’s Raimund Theater.

The Vereinigte Bühnen Wien are now extending their production of “The Phantom of the Opera” until June 2026. Since its premiere in March 2024, the show has been highly popular with audiences every evening. Due to its great success, Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s masterpiece will be on stage at the Raimund Theater for another season. “The spectacular new version of Cameron Mackintosh’s and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera is a huge success with the audience. That’s why we have decided to present the most famous musical of all time for another season in Vienna. We are very grateful that The Phantom of the Opera continues to be so well received by our audiences at the Raimund Theater, and that together with this production and the new VBW musical Maria Theresia, which will celebrate its world premiere at the Ronacher in October, we are helping to further enrich the cultural landscape of our city,” says VBW Artistic Director Christian Struppeck, praising the long-running success at the Raimund Theater.

The recipe for success: a legendary chandelier, gripping passion, and world-famous melodies.

International critics rave that this new production by Cameron Makintosh is “bigger and better than ever before.” The staging impresses with many spectacular special effects – including, of course, the legendary chandelier – the beloved story, and the breathtakingly romantic music of Lloyd Webber, with world-famous songs such as “The Music of the Night”, “Think of Me”, “The Phantom of the Opera”, or “Masquerade” – with a large ensemble, naturally accompanied by the VBW orchestra in full force. An elaborately staged and extraordinary musical evening full of great emotions, undying love, and gripping passion – one not to be missed.

A visual and sonic spectacle: this new staging of a timeless classic dazzles at
